Welcome to the Chinquapin Inn

Nestled in tall pines and silhouetted by the Blue Ridge Mountains, Chinquapin Inn is a cozy and hospitable bed and breakfast located just down the quiet hillside road from Penland School of Crafts, one of America's oldest craft schools. The Blue Ridge Parkway is only a short drive away, and the surrounding area is rich in hiking trails, artists' studios and craft galleries. Your hosts are Bill and Sue Ford. Bill, a lifelong resident of the area who has also traveled widely to Europe and the Middle East, is a former school teacher and historian of Penland School. His family has ties going back to the founding of the school. His grandmother, Adeline Willis was the first Penland Weaver. Sue, an avid antiques collector and former art teacher, is a creative cook who expertly directs guests to the area's many attractions.

The inn has four guest rooms with adjoining baths, a gracious wood-paneled living room, and a large sun porch. Guests wishing complete privacy may choose either of two double rooms with private entrance. Each has a garden view, and one has a wood stove and reading nook. The remaining two rooms comprise a suite and are located just off the living room; one is a double, the other a single with a private sitting porch. Shaded gardens of perennial flowers are available to all guests who wish to listen to the birds, read a good book, or just take a peaceful afternoon nap. Lodging includes a breakfast of fresh-baked breads, gourmet coffee, fresh fruit and more. Chinquapin Inn is located a little off the beaten path, with easy access from highways U.S.19E and N.C.226, about an hour from Asheville and Boone and an easy drive from Spruce Pine, Little Switzerland and Burnsville. Please call for rates and reservations.
